OVERVIEW

PROBLEM

Platform Fragmentation + Choice Overload

1. Fragmented switching among platforms - COMPLICATED

Constantly switching between multiple platforms to find the perfect sneakers causes frustration and leads to lost interest.

Endless catalogs and options can paralyze decision-making, making it difficult to discover truly personalized finds.

2. Overwhelming choices - BORING&HARD

“BlindBox Platform”: Sneaker Discovery Experience

SOLUTION

A one-stop, gamified shopping platform that harnesses big data and AI to create a tailored selection of sneakers and introduces the “BlindBox” concept. By combining all your sneaker-shopping needs in one place and revealing each find as a fun, surprise-filled discovery, I transform an otherwise overwhelming search into an engaging experience—personalized, adventurous, and refreshingly simple.

Made in Blender - Pengye Yang

Sneaker Hunterz reinvents sneaker shopping with a “blind box” model that turns every purchase into a thrilling mystery reveal. Rare collaborations, limited releases, and fresh seasonal styles await, creating a memorable bond between sneaker lovers and their new kicks. By blending cutting-edge retail innovation with a playful spirit, Sneaker Hunterz transforms ordinary shopping into a true fashion treasure hunt.

USER RESEARCH

Understand the paint point from Users

To find out more user pain points, I interviewed several sneaker buyers to understand their shopping experience.

Based on more than 20 interviewers, I have concluded some useful data about the few commom painpoints along their sneaker shopping experience.

Painpoints

How might we QUESTIONS

How might we create a different shopping experience for buyers to find their own style?

How might we simplify the sneaker shopping experience?

PROBLEM STATEMENT

“Many sneaker shoppers invest excessive time and effort searching for their ideal pair, only to lose interest before completing their purchase.”

SECONDARY RESEARCH

Behaviors Anaylsis - Shopping Experience

By building up the journey map for the sneaker buyer, I can identify when buyers start feeling inconvenienced. And I also looked for more opportunities to narrow down the pain points that help to enhance the shopping experience.

Journey Map

By closely examining the target audience and their shopping journey, I developed a persona that accurately represents this specific user group. By analyzing their needs, motivations, and challenges, I created a clear, detailed profile that guides tailored solutions and fosters a more engaging shopping experience.

Persona

I aim to design a product that helps sneaker buyers to create a personal connection toward all fashion styles followed by their shoe preferences through an exciting experience. I also wanted this app to be an assistant instead of an extra app that takes additional action.

REFLECTION

Takeaways

This project has been an innovative take on existing solutions, aiming to provide users with a different perspective and experience in buying sneakers.

For me, it was both a challenge and a valuable learning opportunity. Through interactions with users, I discovered their real needs and identified several shortcomings in current products. These insights shaped the app's design and helped me focus on addressing those gaps effectively.

Feedback from school officials and classmates reinforced the importance of defining and highlighting an app's core functionality. It became clear that simplicity and purpose are critical in creating a compelling user experience.

If I had more time,

I would have further refined the app’s visual and interactive aspects, ensuring they resonate with users. Additionally, I’d validate whether this approach truly helps users find their perfect sneakers faster and more efficiently, minimizing wasted time. These considerations remain vital to shaping a more impactful and user-centric design.
